Friday Hodgepodge - Productive Week, Yard Cleanup, Christmas Lights, and More

It's a cool 42 degrees this morning, but the sun is shining and it looks like it's going to be a nice day here on the tallgrass prairies of southwest Missouri.

I've got bison tenderloin cooking in the crockpot and am anticipating my first taste of bison chili this fall for supper tonight.

(Used Ground Bison In This One)

I usually get my first taste on National Bison Day when my co-worker and I each make a couple of crock potsful to be served to visitors to the park in celebration of the event, but, since COVID, that part of it isn't a thing anymore, so, I'm making a pot of my own for the weekend and am greatly looking forward to it. How many of you enjoy eating chili in the fall and winter and what are your favorite things to add on the side (crackers, cheese, jalapenos, onions, etc.)?

I'm pleased to say that it's been a productive week. Christy and the children came over Monday to help with yard work. Between what I got done before they arrived and what was done while they were here, we got the rest of the weatherizing done, dead-headed the zinnias and saved the seed for next year, trimmed up and cut out any trees that needed it, cut out and mowed down the mums, lemon balm, and mint, cleaned up around the edges of the house and garage, put tools and other items away in the shed for the winter, relocated one of the bird baths, put up two new feeders, cleaned the solar light panels, burned a lot of cardboard, old wood, and plant debris, and got most of the back fencerow cleaned out.

There was a big pile of mulch back at the back of the property that John had ordered in early last year. We hadn't done anything with it and it was overgrown with honeysuckle and poison ivy. I wasn't quite sure what to do with it...thought I'd rake it down or something to try to level it out...but, when my cousin came to haul off the van, he said he'd bring his skid steer over and take care of it...which he did...and, while he was at it, he pushed all the brush that we had collected, up into a nice neat pile at the far back corner. It will make a nice place for wildlife to shelter this winter.

Speaking of "wildlife"...

...this is the pretty, little, neighborhood kitty that hangs around constantly and noses into every move I make. She's so funny! She acts more like a dog than a cat. I wish I knew who she belongs to. I'd take her home!

Anyway, the backyard looks so good now. There's still a little more trim work to do right along the edge of the fence, but my cousin said that he's going to finish that up with some other piece of equipment he's got and do a final mow to really spruce things up before the snow flies. Between getting all that done and the new roof on the house...man! I am absolutely elated! 😂

Amber came over during the the week and we tried a couple of new THM recipes...which were really good, but I'm going to have to lay off the stevia. It's really having a negative effect on me and it seems like that happened before. In fact, I'm pretty sure that's why I went off of THM last time. It makes me sad. I was really geared up for success this time. Please pray for me as I need healing in my body and wisdom and direction in regards to weight loss and dietary issues. Thanks in advance.

Anthony and his family came over Wednesday afternoon and helped me get the outside Christmas lights up. They're so bright and pretty reflecting off the new facia board! (I know...it's super early, but, believe me, I need all the Christmas I can get this year.)

It's supposed to get down in the 20's overnight tonight. That means there should be frost flowers by morning.

My plan is to be out early in the morning to witness this rare and delicate gift before it gets too warm and they melt away. It's still early in the season, though, and, if you know where to look for them, there should be plenty of other opportunities to witness them before winter.

Well...that's it for today! I'm wishing you and yours a great Friday and a wonderful weekend!

Until next time...
~Rebecca
