Pressing Forward, Missouri Backroads, and More

With losing, both my husband and one of my oldest and dearest friends, Dorothy, in July, things in my life are definitely out of whack right now, but I am determined to get back into the swing of things and keep pressing forward.

What other choice do I really have? I'm in a new season now. I can choose to trust God and embrace it or I can choose to be miserable. I don't like being miserable, so I must choose to trust God and embrace it. I am trying desperately to find my footing and get into some sort of normalcy again.

Armed with that attitude, I have stepped out in faith this week and, instead of staying tethered to my house, as I have been for weeks (months), I have branched out a bit and done a few things that I wouldn't have dared do before this.

Monday afternoon I went blackberry picking with dd and her family. I didn't pick a lot...just enough for a small cobbler. The berry bushes that we picked from were thornless and the berries were HUGE, sweet, and delicious! I put the quart of berries that I picked in the freezer and will figure out a special date on which to make my cobbler.

After getting the blackberries squared away I did some weed-eating and, I think, I overdid it because I felt terrible all day Tuesday and didn't do much of anything. Wednesday, on the other hand, proved to be a good and productive day!

I needed to run to town. I hadn't been to a regular grocery store in weeks and I needed to renew my driver's license (it was due to expire next week). Granddaughter, Ruth, was turning 6, too, so I decided to make a day of it. I went to visit Ruth and her family first. It was nice to get away from town and further out into the country.

The backroads of Missouri farm country are beautiful right now! Big round bales of hay dotted many farm fields along the way and lush, green corn stood tall and proud along the edges of the gravel road on which my next-to-the-youngest son and daughter-in-law live. I enjoyed walking the grounds at their house and marveled at all the fruit they have hanging on their trees. A veritable orchard they have...peaches, apples, and pears. What a blessing!

After visiting there, I went to Lamar. I got my driver's license renewed with no problem. I did have to a wait a bit though as the fellow before me, who after going through the entire process, was shocked that they wanted money to make him an ID. He (and I...and the two or three others that had come in behind me) had to wait for his grandmother to drive across town and bring him some money so he could pay for it. The lady taking care of him had already entered all his information and taken his picture. She needed the money so she could punch the button to complete the process. I thought about paying for his ID myself in order to speed the process up, but, then, decided instead, to use it as an exercise in patience. It worked and I survived. So did all the others.

At the store I was careful to shop mindfully and make good food choices. I loaded up on low-fat, low-calorie, whole foods as much as possible. The only junk-food-type thing I bought at all was a bag of potato chips which will be enjoyed with sandwiches here and there.

I decided not to eat out. That is something that I would normally do when I make a trip to town, but I decided to wait and eat at home instead.

In the evening I walked my mile-loop in the neighborhood with my youngest son, daughter-in-law, and grands. That's something that I've not done since late fall of last year before John and I got sick with COVID. It felt good to get out and I'm thankful that I was able to do it.

The phone guy came this morning. I've been without a phone and internet for a full week now. I'm glad to finally have it fixed and it's working great! The phone company is going to credit me for being a full week without.

Well, I better be going. I've got a lot going on today and I'm getting a later start than I wanted to. You all have a great day and I'll talk to you again soon.

Until next time...

    1. Good for you, Deb! That's WONDERFUL!!! I used to walk a lot, but, since having COVID and, especially, since sitting around hospitals and home for so long without doing anything, it's hard. I'm going to have to get myself back in condition so I can get on with it. Talk soon! <3
