It's Tuesday and it's time for Tuesday 4! Here are Annie's questions for Week 2 of 2020...
1. Where have you traveled and what is the furthest you've been from home?
I live in southwest Missouri. I've traveled as far north as the Candian border, south as far as the Gulf of Mexico (North Padre Island), west as far as the Rocky Mountains, and east...only as far as Alton, Illinois.
2. Is there a location other than where you are, that you think would be a nice place to live?
Northern Minnesota and Cody, Wyoming
3. Do you have a photo or story from a favorite place to visit?
Ely, Minnesota is my second home. From the time I was 7-years-old, on up until I was well into my 20's, my parents and I would vacation there once...sometimes twice...a year.
4. What dream destination do you have tucked away in your heart? Do you think you'll be able to visit them one day or are plans in the making?

Shagawa Lake is the lake I 'grew up' on. The little white cabin, there in the background, that overlooks the lake, is the cabin that our family most generally stayed in while vacationing there. |
My dad enjoyed fishing on the lakes and would catch, and freeze, enough northern pike and walleye to last us from one year to the next. My mother and I would spend our days visiting local places of interest and exploring the vast beauty of Superior National Forest.
One of the many lakes along the Echo Trail. |
Many happy memories occurred on our trips to Ely. It was there that I saw my first black bear in the wild (a mama bear with twin cubs crossing Number 1 Highway on our way to Duluth), saw my first moose (a mama with twin calves down in a swamp along Fernberg Road), saw my first wolf, my first porcupine, and my first grouse, fed chipmunks out of my hand, listened to the chilling and, sometimes, crazy calls of the common loon, heard the call of a lone wolf, and picked daisies to wear in my hair.

Someday I would like to visit Tennesee, Kentucky, and North Carolina. I want to visit the Shenendoah Valley, visit the graves of my Revolutionary War hero granddaddies, and see the Atlantic Ocean. Do I think I'll do it? Yes, I think I will...someday. 💗
I hope you get to see all the things you want to see :)
ReplyDeleteHow interesting it would be to see the graves of those ancestors too. I would love doing something Like that. Wyoming is very cool but extra cold. I was in Cheyenne when it was 24 below . Very cold but beautiful.
Thanks, Ann! Yes, the last time I was in Cody the wind was blowing straight down out of Yellowstone and it was c-o-l-d, but I loved it!
DeleteWe lived by the lake when we were in Canada, it was wonderful. We were very remote and at night the black bears would come strolling by. I've visited my great, great grandfathers grave, even though I never knew him it was still very emotional. Hope you get to visit your ancestors soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mary! Black bears are my favorite animals. I've seen several in Minnesota; now I'm waiting to see my first Missouri black bear. I can imagine the emotion of visiting your great, great grandfather's grave. If it weren't for them, there would be no us. Blessings! <3
DeleteWell, when you come eat to teh Shenandoah look me up. I live there at the southern tip.
ReplyDeleteI will, Schotzy! My seventh-great grandfather, Adam Sherrill, and his sons opened the Shenandoah (Sherrill's Ford) and settled in that area. I so long to see it someday! When I make it there, I will definitely get together with you! Bless you, Sweet Lady! <3
DeleteI would love to travel more. Southwest Missouri is a beautiful place to live though isn't it? I am not sure where you are, but I am between Branson and Springfield. I teach and grew up in Reeds Spring, so I am a fan of all of the lakes. Loved your answers! Have a nice week!

Southwest Missouri is beautiful, Lori! We live on the Missouri/Kansas border, 40 miles north of Joplin, right in the middle of the tallgrass prairie. I am in Springfield quite a bit and ususally make it to Branson once a year. I love the lakes, too! <3
DeleteI enjoyed your pictures, especially the lake with the boat. The Echo trail pictures reminds me of Lake Tahoe. So much beauty everywhere!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Susan! I agree! I think there is something beautiful about every place there is. Blessings for a great week! <3
DeleteWyoming is a beautiful state and Northern Minnesota very pretty. Hope you get to visit those states someday.
