Took this hearth photo at Missouri Town over the weekend and did a little work on it. I thought it was appropriate! ๐ |
How are you? And how was your weekend?
Our week and weekend were good here, but the time fairly flew by...just as it seems it does with all the other weeks here of late.
Monday and Tuesday were spent taking care of business and working around the house; the rest of the week was spent working at the park (school groups and upcoming program prep). I was off, however, over the weekend and took full advantage of it!
On Saturday John and I met my aunts and cousins at Missouri Town 1855 for their annual fall festival. It was rainy, yes, but not a complete washout like last year (last year they had to cancel completely). We met the fam there shortly after opening and enjoyed several hours of visiting and taking in the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of autumn and an era gone by.
Some of us were smart enough to bring umbrellas (like the ones here) and some of us were not (like John and I).☔ |
Music filled the air of the event and here my young cousins joined the old-time dancers for a spin on the lawn. |
Would any fall event be complete without funnel cake? ๐ณ |
Five generations of our family have enjoyed visiting Missouri Town over the years and I can't help but think of my mother whenever I see two of the structures there... this cabin (it was her favorite and she had friends that used to live in it before it was moved to its current location)... |
...and the chicken house. (She always dreamed of having one just like it.) |
Despite the rain, we had a lovely day and John and I ended it with a quick visit to one of my favorite places in the world...Sailboat Cove on Lake Jacomo.

Right now I am...
... enjoying a cup of tea and finishing up breakfast while I work on this post.
On the breakfast plate...
... fat-free turkey slices, a wedge of Laughing Cow cheese, and egg on a hamburger bun (I forgot to buy sandwich bread this week) with pumpkin spice tea
The weather...
... We went from summer to late fall, literally, overnight (I think that was Wednesday night). Right now it's cloudy with the temperature sitting at a cool 43 degrees (which is cooler than what was predicted), but it looks like even chillier nights are ahead. I think it's time to dig out the fall clothes and start thinking about winter weatherization.
... On my reading pile...
Other than daily Bible reading I haven't read a single word of anything else this week, so I'm still just where I was. I have added several new books to my 'want to read' pile though. ๐
My Father, Daniel Boone - The Draper Interviews with Nathan Boone edited by Neal O. Hammon and On The Banks of Plum Creek by Laura Ingalls Wilder
Monday - Beef stew, homemade bread (freezer), and crustless sweet potato pie
Tuesday - Turkey Italian sausages, oven-roasted vegetables (potatoes, carrots, celery, and onions) and high-fiber bran muffins
Wednesday - Chili and fried apples
Thursday - Oven-roasted turkey, cheesy scalloped potatoes, and frozen peas
Friday - Broiled spoonbill (last package of it in the freezer...I think), leftover cheesy scalloped potatoes, green beans, and fried apples
Saturday - Dh's night to cook
Sunday - Leftovers

On my 'to do' list...
- Monday - HHM post, home blessing, laundry, plan the week ahead
- Tuesday - Lead a group of area homeschoolers on an autumn hike and scavenger hunt
- Wednesday - Work (bison vet checks); invited to son and daughter-in-law's in the evening

In the craft basket...
... keeping up with the temperature afghan
Looking forward to this week...
... Getting out in nature (autumn hike) and helping with the bison vet checks.
I love working with these magnificent and amazing animals! Being able to witness their power and strength up close and first hand is one of the things I love most about my job. |
Something I enjoyed watching this week...
... The Great British Baking Show (Season 2) and a documentary on Amazon about Queen Elizabeth's coronation. It was very enjoyable to see the 91-year-old queen and hear her comments, as she viewed footage of her own coronation for the very first time. ๐
From the camera...
This woman was crafting bobbin lace at Missouri Town on Saturday. What an intricate process! |

Well, Ladies, that's it for this week! I pray that each and every one of you have a blessed and beautiful week ahead! And I'll see you again next week! ๐

What an exciting menu you have this week.. I am completely mesmerized by the art of tatting.. My grandmother did it when I was little then she gave it up and I do remember her sitting in her chair creating magic!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Schotzy! We are definitely enjoying all these fall flavors for sure! My mom tatted and our youngest daughter just posted on Facebook that she is learning to tat. That's awesome! What a beautiful and delicate craft to learn!
DeleteThe festival looks like so much fun and your menu sounds super yummy! That is a great photo of the two of you, have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThanks! The festival was a lot of fun and, yes! We are certainly taking advantage of and enjoying all the fall flavors! Hope you're enjoying a great week, as well! <3
DeleteWe got more bad news over our weekend, but we will push forward. Your photos of your festival look like so much fun. I think I'll put chili on our menu for the weekend. We will get chilly weather. Have a nice week.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear of further loss in your family, Kristina. You all have sure had a lot of it lately and our thoughts and prayers are with you. We had chili for supper tonight and fried apples. So good! They're saying 32 degrees here now for Friday night. Brrrrr! Blessings for a great rest of the week! <3
DeleteOooo funnel cakes! Bobbin lace - looks interesting, but oh what a process! Love all your photos! Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jodi! Hope your week is going well, too! Blessings, Sweet Lady! <3
DeleteWow, you have been so busy. I could go for some funnel cake!
ReplyDeleteI have been busy, Debby...too busy, in fact. The funnel cake was so good! It had been a while since we had had any. Blessings for a great rest of the week!
DeleteSounds like a fun and informative festival! I would LOVE working with those magnificent animals - you are so lucky. I hope you have a GREAT week.
ReplyDeleteThe festival was fun, Threesides, and I so enjoyed spending time with my family. I only get to see them once every year or two, so it's a special time, indeed. And, yes, I agree! I have THE BEST job in this area! Being fortunate enough to be able to work with the bison is such a blessing...something very rare, indeed! Hope you're in the middle of a fantastically wonderful week! Blessings, Sweet Lady! <3
DeleteMissouri Town looks like great fun and of course, funnel cake must be there! I watched The Coronation as well and really enjoyed it. My favorite part of your menu is "Dh's night to cook" - must add that to my line-up when Vic is home!
ReplyDeleteWasn't that good, Pamela (The Coronation)? And ahahahaha! I love your 'favorite part' of my menu, but your Vic might not be too happy with it! LOL! It is such a blessing to have a husband that loves to cook. He ASKED to be put on the menu list and I certainly wasn't going to discourage him. ;) Hope you're having a great week! Blessings! <3
DeleteLooks like you got lots of family fun in during the weekend. Missouri town looks like a great place to visit.
ReplyDeletehave a great week
