Fairy Jars

Daughter, Amanda, and I have planned on making these fairy jars forever. She found them on-line and showed them to me months ago. We had been talking about making them ever since, but couldn't seem to find a time to actually get together to do it. She ordered the fairies for the jars back in March. At least, we'd have them whenever a good time presented itself.

My Fairy Jars
Well, the time finally presented itself last week. We were scheduled to do one thing, but the event ended up being canceled, so we went ahead, got together anyway, and made the fairy jars. We had such fun in doing so, too! πŸ’—

We gathered our supplies and set to work! The first step was to encapsulate the fairies in the jars. (Easier said than done! Those fairies aren't easily enticed into tight spaces!) πŸ˜†

Here daughter, Amanda, applies glue and tissue paper to the outside of one of her jars.

And, of course, Amanda insisted on watching Tinkerbell while we worked! πŸ˜‰

This is my favorite of the jars that I made.

Here are some of the fairy jars that Amanda made.

If anyone is interested in making a few fairy jars of their own, here is the tutorial that Amanda and I watched and followed to make ours...

Until next time...

Happy Homemaker Monday - October 29, 2018

Good morning, Sweet Ladies! HAPPY MONDAY! πŸ’—And it's the LAST MONDAY IN OCTOBER! Wow! 😲

What a wild and crazy (but good) week this past week has been. I feel like I've been on a mad dash for too long and am hoping that this week has as much downtime as it looks like it might because I desperately need it!

Our youngest daughter came down last Monday and stayed a couple of nights (one with us and one with her sister and her family) and what a great time we had!

On Monday night we hosted a bonfire here at the house and invited the clan. Most of our children and their families were able to make it, as well as a cousin and one of his sons. We served hot dogs, chips, popcorn, apples, hot cocoa, and apple cider. A good time was enjoyed by all!

On Tuesday morning I helped with the bison auction at work and, in the afternoon, Amanda and I finally got around to working on those fairy jars that we've planned on making for so long. In the evening we were invited to have supper with our oldest daughter and her family and Amanda ended up spending her second night in town there.

Amanda left Wednesday morning and I spent the rest of the day getting the house back in order and recouping.

I worked full days Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Friday night we attended a financial freedom seminar with two of our children and their families and on Saturday night we went to a bonfire at our next-to-the youngest son and his family's place.

On Sunday I finally got around to taking the conceal and carry class that I've been trying to get into to for, at least, three years now. It was great fun and I'm super glad to get that marked off my bucket list now!

Got to take this class with a great bunch of gals!
Enough about last week! Let's head on into the week ahead!

Today I'm joining Sandra and the other lovely ladies for Happy Homemaker Monday over at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom. Won't you join me? πŸ’—

Right now I am...

... getting ready to fix lunch. (Actually, by the time I got this finished and ready to post supper was cooking. It's been a long day.) 😊

Am thinking...

... about all of the things that need to be done this week and am feeling overwhelmed. I think that I need to take a break, pray over things, make a list, do away with everything that isn't absolutely necessary, and just chill for a change.

On the breakfast plate...

... this morning I had an egg, fat-free turkey, and toasted cheese sandwich and a cup of Twining's Irish Breakfast tea.

The weather...

... PERFECT!!! Sunny and 67 degrees at noon with a high of 73 and a zero-percent chance of rain expected today, but, according to the ten-day forecast, we are in for some big changes. Starting tomorrow there is a twenty to sixty percent chance of rain almost every day and temperatures are expected to be much colder throughout the rest of the week. We'll see!

On my reading pile...

... I finally finished America Stands (get your FREE copy by clicking HERE), but am still reading 5 Things Successful People Do Before 8 A.M. by Terri Savelle Foy, and The Buffalo Train Ride by Desiree Morrison Webber.

On the menu this week...

Monday - creamy chicken and wild rice soup
Tuesday - ham steak, cheesy scalloped potatoes, and green beans
Wednesday - Guatemalan red beans and rice
Thursday - turkey burgers and sweet potato fries
Friday - chili and cornbread
Saturday - broiled salmon, baked potato, and green beans
Sunday - leftovers

On my 'to do' list...

- Monday - Plan the week ahead, do a super condensed version of my weekly "home blessing", do a load of laundry, run a few errands, and get together with my BFFF
- Tuesday - Take a friend grocery shopping
- Wednesday - Start planning our family Christmas get-together, carve a pumpkin, and pass out tracts and treats to trick-or-treaters
- Thursday - Do the November budget and figure first-of-the-month bills
-Friday - Work; make chili for National Bison Day
- Saturday - Work (National Bison Day); set clocks back
- Sunday - Church

In the craft basket...

Fairy Jars
(If I get a chance, I plan on writing a separate post about these.)

Looking forward to this week...

... Any time that I can find to rest, relax, read, and plan.

Happy Homemaker Monday - October 22, 2018

Good morning, Sweet Ladies! HAPPY MONDAY! πŸ’—

I pray that this post finds you and yours healthy, happy, and serving the Lord with gladness. How was your week and weekend? Ours was good here!

On Monday I harvested and dried herbs...chives, sage (enough to last us until spring), and basil. Monday night we got our first frost of the season.

On Tuesday I took grandson, T.J. out to lunch for his birthday and we had a ball! For lunch we chose cheese enchiladas with rice and beans; later, we enjoyed a hot fudge sundae at Dairy Queen.

On Wednesday I presented two programs on bison at the local library. The children seemed to enjoy it and I know I did! (I always do!) πŸ’— Here is some of the children's artwork. They colored their bison, then embellished them with real bison fur. How fun is THAT?! 😊

I took a friend to her hair appointment on Thursday, then spent the rest of the day catching up on stuff around the house.

I worked Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoon. Saturday I worked a special event at the Battle of Island Mound State Historic Site. It was a beautiful day, but it was so windy that, most of the day, I felt like my eyeballs were being ripped out their sockets! It was wild! The good news is...this was my last Sunday afternoon to work until April (we are closed on Sundays from November 1st through March 31). I'm so thankful and am really looking forward to spending Sunday afternoons with family and friends and just RESTING! πŸ’—

Okay...enough about last week! On to the week at hand!

Right now I am...

... enjoying breakfast and a cup of hot tea while taking a break from housework and laundry. I am also working on this post and watching morning sunlight spill across and overtake the view outside my office window. Beautiful! πŸ’—

Am thinking...

... that this is the second week in a row that I've had no time to post anything other than my HHM post and I guess it's got to be okay. I am hoping to find more time to post in the days ahead, but, right now, it's just not happening. I'm glad I didn't commit to a 31 Days of October challenge! 😳

On the breakfast plate...

... almond butter and homemade cherry jelly on toast and Twining's Irish Breakfast tea

The weather...

... Right now it's sunny and 44 degrees with a windchill of 40. According to the weatherman we're supposed to have a high of 66 degrees today with zero chances of rain. The week ahead looks cool with highs in the mid-50's and 60's and nights in the 40's.

On my reading pile...

... Right now I'm reading America Stands (Kenneth Copeland Publications), 5 Things Successful People Do Before 8 A.M. by Terri Savelle Foy, and The Buffalo Train Ride by Desiree Morrison Webber.

On the menu this week...

Monday - hot dogs on buns, chips, apples, popcorn, apple cider, and hot chocolate
Tuesday - Salisbury steak with grilled mushrooms, baked sweet potatoes, and green beans
Wednesday - broiled salmon, baked butternut squash, and steamed broccoli
Thursday - creamy chicken and wild rice soup with homemade bread and salad
Friday - turkey burgers and oven fries
Saturday - homemade pizza
Sunday - leftovers

On my 'to do' list...

- Monday - Plan the week ahead, do my weekly "home blessing", laundry, youngest daughter arriving for a short visit, hosting a clan bonfire
- Tuesday - Work (bison auction), spend afternoon and evening with family
- Wednesday - Catch up on things around the house, rest
- Thursday - Work
-Friday - Work
- Saturday - Work, cousin's birthday party, bonfire and supper at son and daughter-in-law's
- Sunday - Attend conceal and carry class

Happy Homemaker Monday - October 15, 2018

Good morning, Sweet Ladies! HAPPY MONDAY!

As of today we're halfway through the month of October and time is moving on! How was your week and weekend been?

The Evening Sky Outside My Office Window Saturday Night
My week here was busy...busier than usual, in fact. Monday was catch-up day at home. On Tuesday we put the garden to bed. That, of course, resulted in putting up the last of this year's green and banana peppers. Wednesday was a BIG day at work...bison working and vet checks in the morning and a night hike on the prairie that evening. Thursday was grocery shopping and errand-running and, on Friday, it was back to work for the weekend. Friday morning I presented my WILD ABOUT ELK program to a group of homeschoolers and on Saturday it was catch-up day at work. Yesterday morning, of course, was church, then time spent with family in the afternoon and evening. It was a busy week, but a good one that resulted in a lot being accomplished. The only thing I didn't have time for was blogging...thus no posts since last week's HHM. My apologies for that. 😞

Now, here it is Monday afternoon and I've been on the move since getting out of bed. It's well after my normal lunchtime and I'm just finding the time to sit down and eat while I work on this post.

Today I'm joining Sandra and the other lovely ladies for Happy Homemaker Monday over at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom. Won't you join me? πŸ’—

Today I'm joining Sandra at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom and
all of the wonderful ladies of
Happy Homemaker Monday!

Right now I am...

... Having lunch while typing this post. I also have herbs drying in the oven, laundry going, and am working on the mid-month budget.

Am thinking...

... About what a small world it really is. Just last night my son was telling me about a guy that he ran into in the town he lives in that thinks he might be related to us. Verified it all this morning. Yep! My cousin in Texas has a son that lives in the same town as our youngest and, I think, in the same apartment complex. What are the odds? WILD! 😲

On the breakfast plate...

... This morning I had THM Sweatpants Oatmeal; for lunch I'm having a turkey and cheese sandwich and chili-cheese Fritos.

The weather...

... COLD! At 1:00 in the afternoon it is 42 degrees, but feels like 38. There was snow just to our west last night. We're under a freeze warning and are expecting our first freeze tonight. The 10-day forecast promises highs in the 40's, 50's, and 60's with lows in the 30's and 40's. Wow!
It appears that we went straight from summer to winter and skipped fall altogether. 😒

On my reading pile...

... Right now I'm reading America Stands. It is a collection of all our founding documents of freedom...the Mayflower Compact, the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights, etc. put out by Kenneth Copeland Publications.

On the menu this week...

Monday - roasted chicken, baked potatoes, green beans, and corn on the cob
Tuesday - soup (sweet potato and oat) and salad
Wednesday -
baked salmon fillets, roasted butternut squash, and steamed broccoli
Thursday - soup (creamy chicken and wild rice) and salad
Friday - Italian sausage, fried cabbage, and leftover butternut squash
Saturday - homemade pizza
Sunday - leftovers

On my 'to do' list...

- Monday - Plan the week ahead, do my weekly "home blessing", laundry, do mid-month budget, go to the bank, harvest and dry herbs, exchange summer clothes for winter
- Tuesday - Celebrate grandson T.J.'s upcoming birthday, pick up a few groceries
- Wednesday - Present library programs (morning and afternoon)
- Thursday - Take a friend to her hair appointment
-Friday - Work
- Saturday - Work (Battle of Island Mound)
- Sunday - Church, work in the afternoon

In the craft basket...

Nothing at the moment.

Looking forward to this week...

Celebrating my grandson's birthday, having a little more down time than I did last week, and catching up on a few odds and ends at home.

Something interesting I watched this week...

My husband shared this rare footage of New York City with me on Facebook. It is footage from 1911 and, as he pointed out, much of what we see here is as it would have been when his immigrant relatives arrived from Sicily and Italy shortly after the turn-of-the-century. Truly amazing to be able to watch and get a glimpse of what they may have witnessed first-hand! πŸ’—

From the camera...

This morning I was cold and in the mood to do some serious tea drinking, so I pulled out this giant "Good Morning Pumpkin" mug that my cousin, Sara, gave me, to which I added a bag of Twining's Irish Breakfast tea and, filling 'er up with boiling hot water, and enjoyed every last drop of it! πŸ˜‹
Scripture passage...

Well, Ladies, that's it for this week! I pray that each and every one of you have a blessed and beautiful week ahead! And I'll see you next week!

Happy Homemaker Monday - October 8, 2018

Good morning, Sweet Ladies!

Happy Monday!!! And Happy Columbus Day! How was your week and weekend?

Our week and weekend here was busy (as always), but good!

On Tuesday, Amber and I got together with dear friends over tea. We used to get together with them fairly often, but it had been awhile...far too long, in fact! We had a lot of fun and I love these ladies with all my heart! πŸ’—

We had school groups on Wednesday and Thursday, so I worked mornings on both of those days and a full day on Friday.

Saturday we were supposed to meet up with family and go to the fall craft and music festival at Missouri Town, but, of all the things! It was cancelled due to heavy rains! I couldn't believe it! 😲 I don't ever remember that event being cancelled for any reason. Anyway, it was, so we didn't make it. I ended up going into work that day and offered to work in place of my boss, who happened to be celebrating his birthday. He took me up on my offer and I had the nature center to myself. I spent the entire day working on Friday's elk program. I was disappointed not to be at Missouri Town, but it turned out to be a good day after all and I got a lot accomplished. I worked Sunday afternoon, as well.

Right now I am...

... Finishing up breakfast and enjoying a cup of tea while working on this post.

Am thinking...

... about too many things at once, so I won't even go there! πŸ˜„

On the breakfast plate...

... dh's oat bran and chocolate chip muffins and Twining's Irish Breakfast tea

The weather...

... 79 degrees and cloudy, at the moment, with a high of 82 and chances of rain expected later today. Cooler temperatures promise to prevail over the coming days with highs in the 60's and 70's and nighttime lows in the 40's and 50's. A week from today our high is supposed to be 53 degrees with an overnight low of 37. I like it! πŸπŸ‚πŸ

On my reading pile...

... Right now I'm reading The Present Day Ministry of Jesus Christ by Kenneth E. Hagin.

On the menu this week...
Monday - cheese scalloped potatoes, spinach salad, green beans, and homemade bread (freezer)
Tuesday - turkey burgers and oven fries
Wednesday - turkey meatballs and sauce served over troodles (zucchini noodles), and homemade bread (freezer)
Thursday - ham, beans, and cornbread
Friday - salmon, sauteed yellow squash (freezer), and spinach salad
Saturday - homemade pizza (freezer)
Sunday - leftovers

On my 'to do' list...

- Monday - Plan the week ahead, do my weekly "home blessing", do laundry, start weatherizing for winter, clean heating stove
- Tuesday - Put the garden to bed (pick the last of the peppers and pull the plants); get together with my BFFF in the afternoon
- Wednesday - Work (bison vet checks a.m. and night hike p.m.)
- Thursday - Grocery shop, run errands
-Friday - Work
- Saturday - Work
- Sunday - Church, celebrate son-in-law and my BFFF's birthdays

In the craft basket...

Have been helping one of my granddaughters with her crocheting lately. She had learned to chain and single crochet from her other grandma, but she was interested in learning the next step, so I showed her how to double-crochet, then triple-crochet, and she has really taken off with it! She's doing a great job!

As for me...I'm doing nothing in the craft department right now. πŸ˜†

Looking forward to this week...

Working the bison (vet checks), Wednesday's night hike, and Friday's elk program...and any down time I can manage between things to work on things at home.

Something interesting I watched this week...

The amount of food that we waste in this country is disgraceful! I enjoyed watching this video posted by a friend on Facebook. While I don't suggest that we all go dumpster-diving, I do suggest that we be aware, be resourceful, look around us, and see what we each can do in our own spheres of influence. WE can make a difference, Ladies!

From the camera...

Mum Under The Kitchen Window

This is the biggest mum that we've ever owned or seen! I bought it last year and, at that time, it was big...about 18" across; this year it's a good 4 to 4 1/2 feet across! ONE PLANT!!! Amazing and beautiful! πŸ’—

Scripture passage...

Well, Ladies, that's it for this week! I pray that each and every one of you have a blessed and beautiful week ahead! And I'll see you next week!
