Happy Homemaker Monday - January 1, 2018

Today I'm joining Sandra at Diary of a Stay at Home Mom
and all the sweet ladies of
Happy Homemaking Monday!
Good morning, Sweet Ladies!

What a beautiful, beautiful first day of 2018! Happy New Year!!! 🎇🎉🎆

As you can see, I'm running a bit late. I was up late last night and slept in later than usual this morning. I normally don't work on Mondays, but today was our annual First Day Bison Hike at Prairie State Park, so I had to be at work at noon and work until three this afternoon. I just got home a bit ago and hope to get this post out before nightfall.

Let's go straight to it...shall we?

Right now I am...

Enjoying a cup of hot tea while working on this post and waiting for a pan of warm cornbread to come out of the oven.

On the breakfast plate...

This morning I enjoyed leftover biscuits and gravy, ham, and eggs.

The weather...

Here in southwest Missouri we are in the deep-freeze. At the moment it is 16 degrees, which is actually warmer than what it was supposed to be. Wind chills are expected to be between 5 and 15 degrees below zero overnight for the third night in a row. Starting tomorrow temperatures promise to be somewhat warmer over the next ten-day forecast.

On my reading pile...

I finished my 2017 reading-through-the-Bible-in-a-year schedule yesterday and am trying to figure out if I want to commit to doing that again this year or not. Reading scripture is so important and the daily schedule helps me stay committed, but I'm thinking of taking it a bit slower this year and spend more time really digging into and dissecting one or two chapters per day instead of just spending all my time simply reading through.

As for books...I'm still in the same three that I was before Christmas, but am further along in all of them than I was at last check-in. In fact, I'm within just two chapters of finishing Greater Health God's Way by Stormie Omartian.

I have finished Your 10-Day Spiritual Action Plan for Overcoming Stress, Anxiety, and Depression by Kenneth and Gloria Copeland and am now going through it a second time with the express purpose of gathering all the scriptures given and writing them out on index cards. This was such a good study and, by pointing me to, and taking me through what the Word of God has to say, it has really helped me overcome a lot of issues that were assailing me just a short time ago.

On the menu this week...

My husband and I are gearing up for another Dollar-S-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g, Cabinet-Clearing, Clean-Up-The-Food Project after the holidays, but, things have been so hectic that we've not had time to do our food inventory yet, let alone make out menu plans. I'm going to try to work on it and will, hopefully, have a plan in place by mid-week. I will update my weekly menu plan here then, so, please, just bear with me. Thanks!

(Menu updated 1/3/18)

- Monday - ham and beans and cornbread

-Tuesday - roast chicken, smashed red potatoes and steamed asparagus
- Wednesday - supper at daughter and son-in-law's for grandson's birthday
- Thursday - sweet potato and oat soup with bread
- Friday - turkey burgers, fried cabbage, tomato and cucumber slices
- Saturday - stuffed pepper casserole
- Sunday - zucchini noodles with sauce, meatballs, and homemade French bread

On my 'to-do' list...

- Monday - plan week ahead, weekly "home blessing", laundry, work from 12 to 3
- Tuesday - figure January bills and budget; finish taking down Christmas decorations, organizing them, and packing them away neatly for next year, do an inventory of food on-hand
- Wednesday - go to bank, pay bills, work on grocery list and menu plans based on  foods on-hand
- Thursday -
- Friday - work
- Saturday - work
- Sunday - church

In the craft basket...

Nothing at this time.

My favorite blog post this week...

I love this gal's site. It's called The 1940's Experiment. This is her latest post...

Looking forward to this week...

Getting the house back in order after the holidays.

From the camera...

On my way to work this morning I saw a pair of eagles in a farmer's field. These pictures were taken with my Ipod and certainly don't do them justice. They were so beautiful! The mature eagle was just sitting there looking at me; the immature eagle was feasting on carrion at the edge of the fence row. Neither of them seemed to be disturbed at my interest in them.

Well, Ladies, that's it for this week!

Until next time...

  1. Oh, you know I love the photos of the eagles! I bet you froze on your hike yesterday. They ended up canceling a New Year's Eve full moon hike at a local park around here because of the crazy cold and wind chills. Hope you are staying warm and have a wonderful week (and of course, a great New Year!)

    1. LOL! Absolutely! I know you do, Jean!!! And, actually, it wasn't too bad at there yesterday. There was no wind...which is unbelievable because the wind ALWAYS blows on the prairie...and the sun was beautiful. I layered my clothing and kept my nose and mouth covered and did just fine. And, yes, most of the state parks cancelled their First Day Hikes yesterday. A New Year's Eve full moon hike would have been awesome!!! Stay warm and have a great week and a great year ahead! Happy 2018! <3

  2. I'm so glad the "bitter" cold is over and getting back to "normal" cold. We're doing the same thing with the cleaning out the freezer and pantry. Have a great weekend.

    1. Oh, yes! Me, too, Tamy! Today we're getting rain and it's supposed to be really nice temperature-wise this week. So thankful! Be blessed in your cabinet-cleaning and food-clearing this month! See you tomorrow! <3
