| Corn, Pumpkins, and Straw at the Entrance of the Festival |
Heavy rains were in the forecast, and it did rain some on the way up, but, by the time we got to Missouri Town, the rain had ended, there was a nice breeze blowing, and the sun had come out. Even though it was quite wet, soggy, and muddy in places, the weather turned out to be pretty near perfect.
The battery on my Ipod died, so I didn't get too many photos. The one above of corn, pumpkins, and bales of straw is one of my favorites.
I love the split-rail fence that is built along the lane that leads down to the village.
Some visitors paid to take rides through the village in horse-drawn carts and wagons; other preferred to hop on the hay ride that shuttled people back and forth between the parking lot and village.
While we did enjoy a hay ride while there, we chose to do all our traveling on foot.
More than twenty-five buildings dating from 1820 to 1860 make up the village known as Missouri Town 1855. All of the structures are original, as are their furnishings and equipment.
19th Century lifestyles are interpreted by people dressed in period clothing. Authentic field and garden crops are grown on-site, as are rare livestock breeds.
While at the festival today, we had the privilege of meeting Johnny Crawford. He was a great guy and we a lot of fun visiting with him.
