Today I am thankful for books...especially all those non-fiction, Christian, women's books that God has brought into my path over the years. Through them God has provided much of the Biblical training mandated in Scripture for 'the older women to teach the younger.' I am especially thankful for the authoresses of these books because, over the years, in the absence of 'real life' teachers, they have, indeed, become my teachers..."A Woman After God's Own Heart" and "Beautiful in God's Eyes" (both by Elizabeth George), "The Gentle Ways Of The Beautiful Woman" (Anne Ortlund), "The Spirit-Controlled Woman" (Beverly LaHaye), "The Power of a Praying Wife", "Just Enough Light For The Step I'm On" and "Greater Health God's Way" (Stormie Omartian), and, as of late, "100 Days of Blessing" (Nancy Campbell). These are the books that have made the biggest impact on my life over the past sixteen years or so. I am also thankful for Emilie Barnes and Sue Gregg as they've taught me much about hospitality, homemaking, and cooking. Judy Lewis, at present, is joining that list, too! I am also thankful for publications like Nancy Campbell's 'Above Rubies' and "Keepers of the Home" AND Christian ladies' magazines that, unfortunately, are no longer in publication, but, nevertheless, have made a HUGE impact on my life over time. They include "Crowned With Silver" and "Making It Home", both of which I miss very much!
Some of these I've read, Rebecca, but others I'm going to have to have a look at (even though I'm not allowing myself to buy ANY more books. Ever. Well, for a couple of months anyway!)
ReplyDeleteLike you, they have had a great impact on my life, though my life is so far from the way I'd like it to be. Yes, much to be thankful for :)
I'm not sure if it works in Scotland, but are you familiar with Paperback Swap (www.paperbackswap.com)? You can trade books back and forth there for free. All you have to do is pay shipping. What books have you not read, but are interested in reading?
